Walt Disney World announces opening date for newest rollercoaster TRON Lightcycle/Run

Disney Parks Blog has announced that the new TRON Lightcycle/Run rollercoaster ride, based on the original TRON Lightcycle Power Run at Disneyland Shanghai, will be debuting on April 4, 2023, at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom in Tomorrowland. The rollercoaster will feature individual Lightcycles, similar to motorcycles, with riders experiencing a high-speed race in a semi-enclosed structure, crossing through eight Energy Gates. The attraction will be one of the fastest roller coasters at any Disney theme park in the world. The story of TRON Lightcycle/Run follows the ‘TRON: Legacy’ story where Kevin’s son, Sam Flynn, opens a second gateway into a digital realm called the Grid. To enter the queue line, guests will feel as if they have been digitized and transported to the Grid for the race. Cast members will be the first to enter the Grid during special previews, followed by preview opportunities for Annual Passholders and Disney Vacation Club Members. The ride was announced in 2017 during the Walt Disney World Parks and Resorts presentation at the D23 Expo, and Disney initially planned to open the attraction in time for WDW’s 50th Anniversary celebration, which ends in March 2023.
