According to data released by the United Nations, India is set to become the world’s most populous nation by 2023, surpassing China by 2.9 million people. The South Asian country will have an estimated 1.4286 billion people against China’s 1.4257 billion by the middle of the year, according to UN projections. China has held the title of the world’s most populous nation since at least 1950, but both China and India now have more than 1.4 billion people, with the two countries together making up over a third of the world’s 8 billion people.
