
Numerous Canadian fighters have been added to the UFC 289 card scheduled to take place at Vancouver’s Rogers Arena on June 10. The seven fighters include flyweight Jasmine Jasudavicius, bantamweight Aiemann Zahabi, featherweights Kyle Nelson and Hakeem Dawodu, welterweight Mike Malott, middleweight Marc-Andre Barriault, and strawweight Diana Belbita. While Belbita was born in Romania, she trains out of Stoney Creek, Ontario. The UFC has over 600 fighters on its active roster with 15 of those being Canadian. The event’s main event sees Brazil’s Amanda Nunes defend her bantamweight title against American Julianna Pena. Other fights include Nassourdine Imavov from France facing the US’ Chris Curtis and Dan Ige taking on fellow American Nate Landwehr. Khalil Rountree Jr. and Chris Daukas and Matt Schnell and David Dvorak will also face off. The last UFC event in Canada took place at Vancouver’s Rogers Arena on 14 September 2019, before the pandemic.
