Trump Launches and Sells Out Second NFT Series Depicting Himself as George Washington, King of Hearts

Donald Trump has raised an estimated $4.6m from the sale of his latest series of non-fungible tokens (NFTs). This series, which is the second to be released, portrays the former US president in various personas including those of a patriot, historical figure, king, and world leader. The trading cards were available for $99, with “a unique pre-assigned rarity” and limited runs, and were also available for purchase using credit card and cryptocurrency options. In addition, the series included an opportunity to win a ticket to a dinner with Trump at his Mar-A-Lago resort in Florida. The Trump Digital Trading Cards are minted on the Polygon blockchain, with a 10% royalty on the sale price for every secondary sale going back to the creator. None of the revenue earned from the collection is going to Trump’s campaign for President, according to a financial disclosure report filed last week. The enterprise providing these NFTs operates independently of Trump and his associated entities, and compensates the former president through a licensing agreement for the use of his name and likeness. Trump previously released his first NFT series in December 2020 featuring a superhero, astronaut, and cowboy, which were heavily criticized by some for their poor quality and editing. Sales of his first series have risen from just below $38,000 in April to $382,365 on 19 April, according to Crypto Slam.
