Trey Lance could cause Aaron Rodgers trade to implode

Reports suggest that the San Francisco 49ers are fielding trade calls for quarterback Trey Lance, which could impact the New York Jets’ chances of landing Aaron Rodgers from the Green Bay Packers. Although Rodgers has expressed his intention to play for the Jets, their owner Woody Johnson is reportedly unwilling to surrender a first-round pick for him due to his comments about nearing retirement. Former New York Giants running back Tiki Barber warns that the Rodgers to the 49ers talk could have “some validity” if Lance is traded and Brock Purdy, another 49ers quarterback, is unavailable due to UCL surgery. Barber suggests that if Rodgers is available, the 49ers will go for him even if it means mortgaging their future, leaving the Jets without a proven starter. However, the Packers have publicly stated that they are all-in on Jordan Love, their 2020 first-round pick, and might not trade Rodgers to the 49ers, a team that has eliminated them four times in the playoffs since Rodgers entered the NFL. The Jets will have limited options remaining if they lose out on Rodgers, and the fanbase has lost faith in quarterback Zach Wilson, who flopped in his second year in the NFL. With the 2023 NFL Draft fast approaching, both the Jets and Packers fanbases will have to wait to see if Rodgers will be on the move or if the trade saga will continue until training camp.
