Auction house Sotheby’s has relaunched its “Glitch: Beyond Binary” NFT auction after criticism of a lack of diversity in the initial offering. The sale of 34 lots of digital art from “glitch artists” will be organised by Dina Chang and Dawnia Darkstone, also known as Letsglitchit. Indian artist Cyber Shakti is among those to be featured. Glitch art refers to the use of digital or analog errors to disrupt art, sometimes intentionally for political expression. Sotheby’s said the sale would represent people of all backgrounds. Sotheby’s has been expanding into digital art through its Metaverse platform, which was launched in October 2021. Earlier this year, it auctioned the original manuscript for “Snow Crash” and last month it offered digital art inspired by internet memes.
