The Washington Commanders are yet to make a decision on their plans regarding defensive end Chase Young’s fifth-year option. Young was the No. 2 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, and immediately made an impact by winning the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year award. However, he has struggled with injuries in the last two seasons, playing only 12 games combined. While Young has the talent to be one of the best defensive ends in the league, his persistent injury issues may make the team hesitant to exercise the fifth-year option. Young will need to stay healthy and produce next season to secure his long-term future in Washington. During his three-year career in the NFL, Young has played 27 games, recorded 75 tackles, seven passes defensed, six forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, and one defensive touchdown.
