Rangers’ hot start propels them to Game 1 win over rival Devils

The New York Rangers defeated the New Jersey Devils 5-1 in Game 1 of their first-round playoff series. Igor Shesterkin made 27 saves, while Chris Kreider scored two power-play goals. Vladimir Tarasenko, Ryan Lindgren and Filip Chytil also scored for the Rangers. The Devils never got their rush game going and their only goal came on a penalty shot by Jack Hughes. The Rangers won the special teams battle, blanking the Devils on their four power plays, though the penalty shot came in place of a power play. The Rangers set the tone in the opening 10 minutes and never looked back, hitting and blocking shots, and being physical around the net.  Devils captain Nico Hischier and Hughes were knocked to the ice early and often. Game 2 is set to take place on Thursday night.
