Sony has announced that it has acquired Firewalk Studios, a multiplayer developer that it had previously partnered with on an upcoming project. Firewalk was created by ProbablyMonsters, which revealed the studio in 2019 alongside Cauldron Studios. Sony announced in 2021 that it would publish Firewalk’s upcoming multiplayer game, which has not been given a release date or any further details. Tony Hsu, Firewalk’s studio head, said that the acquisition would help his team’s vision “transform… into a reality”. Firewalk’s Ryan Ellis, formerly of Bungie, is serving as game director on the new project. The acquisition of Firewalk brings the total number of companies under the PlayStation Studios brand to 20.
