Paul Scholes left riled by ‘upbeat’ Christian Eriksen interview following Manchester United’s horror show against Sevilla

Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has criticised Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Christian Eriksen for his “upbeat” post-match interview. Eriksen was part of the Ajax team that lost 3-0 to Sevilla, sending the Spanish side through to the Europa League final with a scoreline of 5-2 on aggregate. In the post-match coverage on BT Sport, Eriksen said his team had had a “bad day”, making mistakes that cost them the game. But Scholes criticised Eriksen’s demeanour during the interview, remarking that he looked “quite upbeat” and adding that he had “no idea why”. The loss of Ajax came as a surprise to many but Ajax head coach Erik ten Hag said he believed his players had left everything on the pitch. Ten Hag said the club now needed to consider the issue of the drain of players to other clubs, adding that the future was unclear for the young, talented team he had assembled.
