The era of giant artificial intelligence models is over, according to Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI. Speaking at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Altman said, “We’ll make them better in other ways.” He also confirmed that his company is not developing Chat GPT-5, in response to a letter from Elon Musk and Steve Wozniak calling for a six-month pause on further AI development. Altman disagreed with the letter’s conclusions, stating that it was not the right way to address AI issues. Meanwhile, Musk has said he intends to create an AI chatbot called TruthGPT that seeks to understand the nature of the universe, saying “an AI that cares about understanding the universe is unlikely to annihilate humans.” Altman’s comments come amid growing calls for policymakers to regulate the rapidly emerging AI industry.
