National Public Radio (NPR) has stopped posting to its 52 official Twitter feeds to protest against the designation of “government-funded media” by the social media platform. NPR, which is publicly funded, claimed that the description implied it had government editorial input. British broadcaster, the BBC, has also challenged the label. Elon Musk, the billionaire owner of Twitter, said yesterday that the company was looking to amend the description to “publicly funded”. Musk also revealed that the platform was “roughly breaking even” after many advertisers who had paused their use of the service since last year’s takeover had returned.
