Now WhatsApp can save ‘disappearing’ messages if the sender consents

WhatsApp is introducing a new feature that will allow senders to give recipients the option to keep messages that would otherwise disappear after they’re read. The sender will receive a notification when a recipient tries to save a message, and can then decide if it will disappear or be saved. If the sender decides to delete the message, it will be gone when the timer expires. However, if the sender allows the recipient to save it, a bookmark icon will appear on the message, which can be seen in the recipient’s kept messages folder. According to WhatsApp, this gives senders the “veto” power to reject a recipient’s attempt to save a message. The feature, called “Keep in Chat,” will be rolling out globally in the next few weeks.
