Several NFL teams have reportedly been calling the San Francisco 49ers to make trade offers for quarterback Trey Lance. Although there is no indication that the 49ers are interested in trading him, the fact that other teams are making offers could suggest that Lance has some trade value. Analyst Kevin Cole believes that the 49ers may be leaking this information to create some leverage in case they do decide to trade him. However, trading Lance at this point wouldn’t be wise for the 49ers. Despite suffering an ankle injury last season, which led to him being replaced by veteran Jimmy Garoppolo, Lance started the season as the team’s QB1. Meanwhile, Brock Purdy, the last player chosen in the 2022 NFL Draft, took over under center when Garoppolo suffered a foot injury and led the team to the NFC Championship Game, although he then suffered a torn UCL. Currently, the 49ers look like the best team in the NFC, but they need to figure out what to do with Lance if Purdy is fit to play and becomes the team’s franchise quarterback.
