Paris Saint Germain (PSG) chief Nasser Al-Khelaifi has aimed a dig at Argentine icon Lionel Messi in his latest press conference. The World Cup winner left the Ligue 1 champions alongside Neymar this summer window. Messi joined Inter Miami, whereas Neymar joined Saudi Pro League’s Al Hilal.
PSG were set to lose Kylian Mbappe as well after he was removed from the pre-season training camp. However, the French superstar was integrated back into the first-team squad as his potential move away from the club didn’t materialize.
In a recent interview, Nasser discussed the mood of the PSG camp after the two notable departures and retaining Mbappe. He said, “Kylian Mbappe is an incredible player and a fantastic person. And the Paris Saint-Germain team, on and off the pitch, has never been so united, which I think was possible to see last weekend during the game against Lyon.”
“This year, in the new Paris Saint-Germain cycle, we are focusing less on results and more on performance and our style of play. If we do that, the results will appear accordingly. We have a fantastic coach and sporting director, and I’m very happy with the spirit found at PSG.”
Whether you like it or not, these comments appear to be directed towards Messi and Neymar, who were at the center of attention at almost every given opportunity. The two former Barcelona men were booed heavily after PSG’s defeat at the hands of Bayern Munich in the Champions League, which eventually marked the end of their journey in France.
