Montana Bill Classifying Crypto as Personal Property Approved by House of Reps

Montana’s House of Representatives has passed draft legislation that categorises digital assets as personal property, barring any discriminatory energy rates for cryptocurrency miners. The bill also seeks to prevent taxation on crypto transactions used as payment, and would provide companies with certain benefits and reduced control imposed by government agencies. The bill requires only the signature of Montana’s Governor Greg Gianforte to become official. Meanwhile, Texas has become a popular US mining hub due to its favourable weather conditions, vast area and relatively low electricity costs. Arizona’s State Senator Wendy Rogers has proposed a bill that would make bitcoin an official payment method, while in Florida, Governor Rob DeSantis has suggested making it possible to pay state fees in cryptocurrency instead of fiat money, and is opposed to a digital dollar.
