A landslide that followed heavy rain and storms killed at least three people, including two Afghan nationals, and injured several others in Pakistan’s Khyber tribal district earlier this week. Nearly two dozen vehicles were also trapped under the debris, and it is feared dozens of people are still trapped under rubble. Evacuation operations are under way, but authorities have warned that the scale of the landslide means the road between Pakistan and Afghanistan is likely to remain closed for some time. The landslide was so large that some rescue officials have likened it to “an entire mountain…collapsing”.
