Snapchat has rolled out the global launch of My AI, a chatbot that automatically appears in users’ Chat feeds. The feature, with a customisable Bitmoji avatar, runs on OpenAI’s GPT technology, and responds to users’ messages in a personalised, humanlike tone. Initially exclusive to Snapchat+ subscribers, users can now only remove My AI from their Chat feed by subscribing (for a $3.99 per month fee) or by following a number of steps. Though users can ask My AI about lenses and recommendations for places to visit, many view the chatbot as an unwelcome presence and would prefer to see actual friends at the top of Chat feeds.
