Andy Carroll ‘did a Diego Maradona’ as Reading striker is sent off for punching ball into the net, before Royals are denied win
Former Newcastle, West Ham and Liverpool striker, Andy Carroll, was sent off during Reading’s Championship game against Luton Town for punching the ball into the back of the net. Carroll had given Reading a crucial lead with a header from a corner in the first half, and looked to have scored a second goal with another header early in the second half. However, he actually punched the ball into the net and was given a red card by the referee, Tim Robinson. The goal was disallowed and Carroll is set to miss Reading’s upcoming match against Coventry this weekend. Despite Carroll’s sending off, Reading were close to securing a win until Carlton Morris scored in the 81st minute for Luton to seal a 1-1 draw. Reading now sit in the relegation zone with three games left to play, whilst Luton remain in third and are set to play in the play-offs in the coming weeks. Carroll initially signed a four-month deal at Reading last summer and has scored nine goals for the club this season.
