Amazon, the American multinational technology company, is investing in the future of engineering by awarding scholarships to students from the metro Atlanta area. Amazon Future Engineer is a program that aims to increase access to computer science education for underrepresented and underserved students in the United States. Through the program, Amazon has partnered with Georgia Tech to award one recipient from each of 10 metro Atlanta high schools with a $40,000 scholarship towards a degree in computer science or closely related field. In addition to the scholarship, some students have also received an internship at Amazon. The Future Engineer program has already awarded 2,000 scholarships, and with the addition of the 10 recipients from Atlanta, the program is making headway towards its goal of awarding 100,000 scholarships over 10 years. The program also provides a robust curriculum of free online courses, such as coding and game design, and promotes computer science education through various Amazon-sponsored programs and events, including coding clubs, robotics programs and camps for children in underserved communities. Amazon Future Engineer aims to transform the potential of young minds and encourage a more inclusive state of innovation.
